Two killed after Cessna ‘air taxi’ nosedives and crashes into lagoon in Cancun

  • The Cessna 206 propeller plane plummeted into the water close to hotels in the tourist district of the city on Mexico’s Caribbean coast on Tuesday afternoon
  • Emergency services rushed to the aircraft where they found four passengers, one of whom died while they were carrying out rescue manoeuvres
  • Second passenger died while receiving first aid from paramedics on dry land 

Two people have been killed after a plane nosedived and crashed into a lagoon in Cancun.

The Cessna 206 propeller plane plummeted into the water close to hotels in the tourist district of the city on Mexico’s Caribbean coast on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency services rushed to the aircraft where they found four passengers, one of whom died while they were carrying out rescue manoeuvres.

The second passenger died while receiving first aid from paramedics on dry land.

The plane had taken off from Holbox, around 40 miles northwest of Cancun along the coast, and was preparing to lane close to the hotel district when it plunged downwards.

According to La Prensa Latina, the plane was an air taxi.

Members of the armed forces, national guard, police, firefighters, paramedics and volunteers on jet skis had helped in the rescue efforts.
